About Us

dependable housebuyer ncDependable House Buyer is a real estate solutions company based out of Asheville.

We’re a family-owned business and focus on helping homeowners like you find solutions for your problem whether you’re going through a foreclosure, can’t sell your property, or just need to sell their house for all kinds of reasons.

Our aim is to offer complete flexibility on terms, closing and moving times. Need to close next week? No problem. Need to close, get paid, then stay a few months while you shop for another place? Sure! Need to leave garbage, junk or other possessions, or don’t want to have to enter the house at all? We can help you with that.

We provide win-win solutions to help homeowners get out of their sticky situations… like Foreclosure, owning a burdensome property, probate, or anything else. At Dependable House Buyer, we focus on providing you with a solution to your situation so you can continue to do the things you love.

Meet Our Team

Our team of contractors, landscapers and interior designers makes the most of every house we buy. Every part of our business truly is a team effort, and we couldn’t do what we do without each other!

Let me tell you – HGTV is highly entertaining, but far from the mark. They hide the boring logistical and permitting delays in the interest of good television. They also assume that contractors will show up, do solid work and charge reasonable prices, which is pure fantasy in the current market.

My first project nearly bankrupted my family. I got on the dark side of the IRS, and had to work 80-hour weeks for months to keep us afloat. My second project went much better, with only a $23,000 cost overrun and completion (only) three months behind schedule.

Learning the hard way taught me to think outside the box when Murphy’s law rears its ugly head- and to listen well to the advice of strong, trustworthy people. I’m proud of our team and our finished products.

Like Natalie, I am a medical provider, working with the Veterans Administration to get our Veterans the benefits they deserve. During the rare times I’m not working or with the kids, I still chase young-buck kayakers down local whitewater rivers. I also enjoy reading, chess, music, surfing and mountain biking.

Natalie Dorsey is my wife and better half. Her keen sense of style, color and layout design makes the most of every project. She’s a family medicine Physician Assistant, and devotes the same caring and precision to our projects as she does to her patients. When she’s not solving medical problems or helping plan the perfect kitchen layout, she’s taking our baby son Zeb, or our toddler daughter Via to music or swim class, or a day in the park. She also mountain bikes, climbs cliff faces and dances Contra, Swing and Salsa.

Leland Davis is the glue that holds the entire operation together. His management skills and advanced understanding of the physics of construction allow him to create beautiful and highly functional homes, even when we start with questionable or poor raw material.

Leland and I met on a cold rainy Thanksgiving afternoon 22 years ago to try to kayak the Big East Fork of the Pigeon River from 4,370 feet of elevation at the Blue Ridge Parkway. We spent the next four hours bashing through horribly rocky cascading rapids, then fighting through dense rhododendron with our kayaks to avoid one huge waterfall after another. Fading daylight and an advancing cold front left us shivering in windblown snow, hoping for a way out.

Both of us were willful and strong headed in our younger days, and we both had very different ideas about how to escape the gorge. As our disagreement escalated and dragged other group members into choosing sides, ice formed on our lifejackets, darkness fell and the snowstorm turned into blizzard-like conditions.

Despite the rough start, our common love of whitewater rivers, adventure travel, music and Asheville brought us back together to form a deep and lasting friendship. We look back now on that first day with a laugh, if not a shiver. We’ll be glad to tell you the rest of the story when you meet us, but you may get a little different version from each 🙂

David Tomasch is our Master Carpenter, with 22 years’ experience building and remodeling everything from $40,000 shacks to million-dollar-plus luxury homes. He has an uncanny awareness of the feel of a property, and knows how to maximize its beauty and appeal. He is optimistic and affable almost to a fault and is usually the first person you’ll meet from Dependable House Buyer. He enjoys kayaking biking, climbing, traveling for music events and festivals.

Ryan Renger is our master landscaper and a get-it-done guy. Ugly houses come with ugly yards. He makes them beautiful. When he’s not helping Jason with finishing work, or masterminding a landscaping salvage, he’s traveling with family or surfing in the Outer Banks or Costa Rica.
